About Us

The Georgia Mountain Master Gardeners (GMMG) comprised of Master Gardeners from Lumpkin and Dawson County, Georgia and is dedicated to promoting sound horticultural practices in cooperation with the University of Georgia Extension Service

OUR PURPOSE

As an educational and service organization our primary purposes are:

Extending Master Gardeners knowledge of and interest in gardening and related activities
Sharing information with Georgians about horticultural practices and techniques in accordance with the research and recommendations of the University of Geogirgia Cooperative Extension Service.
Enhancing and supplementing the horticultural efforts of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service.
Providing opportunities for members to meet and associate with others who have similar horticulture interests.

Education and Service

We strive to promote knowledge, interest, appreciation and enjoyment of gardening among members and the public through meetings, newsletters, and activities. We also seek to provide the community with information about good gardening practices through news articles and other media, clinics, exhibits, and presentations to garden clubs, schools and other community groups. Some of our most rewarding educational initiatives are our Youth Programs, Ask a Mater Gardener and our Public Events.

Events

Our most productive annual event is the Georgia Mountains Master Gardeners/Lumpkin County 4-H Club Spring Plant Sale featuring many types of perennials, and shrubs selected to work well in our north Georgia landscapes. It is a perfect way for the community to purchase high quality, locally grown plants at reasonable prices while the proceeds benefit both the Lumpkin County 4-H and the Georgia Mountain Master Gardeners community projects.
