University of North Georgia Native Woodlands
As Master Gardeners, we have many opportunities to volunteer throughout the community. A favorite volunteer spot is at the University of North Georgia's (UNG) Native Woodlands.

In 2018 Dr. Ashlee McCaskill received a grant from the North Georgia Community Foundation - Chattahoochee Oconee Forest Interpretive Committee to install a woodland garden, near the Health Science Building on the UNG campus. The grant allowed Dr. McCaskill to clear walking paths and install a huge variety of native plants.

Our Master Gardeners help to keep this woodland area free of invasive species, clear pathways for visitors, and work on the identification and tagging of plant species. The woodland area provides learning opportunities for students, the community and Master Gardeners alike.
Old Fashioned Christmas
Dahlonega
Each year our Master Gardeners help the city of Dahlonega prepare for Christmas by decorating the town square with wreaths and bows.
Dawson County
Community/Demonstration Garden
Just behind the Dawson County Library our Master Gardeners are working hard to create a sustainable Community/Demonstration Garden. With award winning seeds donated annually by the All American Seed Company (AAS) they plant edibles and florals. This garden provides vegetables for the picking, and flowers to keep the area looking beautiful from Spring to Fall. The Master Gardeners also provide gardening education and tips to those who visit the garden, and to several children's programs offered by the library.
ASK A MASTER GARDENER
Master Gardeners set up a booth at both the Lumpkin and Dawson County Farmer's Markets where visitors have an opportunity to ask questions about their gardening concerns. Master Gardeners are prepared to answer questions about pesky insects, and other garden critters, selecting the right plant for your garden along with many other helpful hints for new gardeners.

Lumpkin County's farmers marker is on the first Saturday of each month from April through September from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

Dawson County's Amicolola Regional Farmers Market is every Saturday from April through October, from 8:00 a.m. to noon.
